S(o)up
Hello! I’m Daniel B.1 I’ve wanted to try writing a blog for some time now; Soup of the Night2 is an attempt at such.
About me: I was born in the 90s. I have lived my entire life in Vilnius, Lithuania. I am fluent in Polish, Russian, Lithuanian and English. I currently teach Academic English to undergraduate students.
What is this blog about? I am interested in writing about politics, ethics, social issues, rationality, philosophy and other Very Deep Ideas™3. My biggest inspiration when it comes to blogging about these topics is Scott Alexander.
I am also into film, science fiction and gaming, in particular tabletop RPGs. When it comes to blogging about the latter, I am inspired by the work of Chris McDowall, Arnold K. and Jason Alexander4.
I don’t think I’m going to write much about cooking, but I really like videos by Adam Ragusea and Internet Shaquille, and would be proud to create content as lucid and engaging as theirs.
This blog will have been a success if I can use it to write things I will personally be proud of. It will have been a great success if other people also like it. That said, if, in addition to all that, there also (improbably?) comes a day when it becomes popular enough to monetize, I will indeed monetize it.
But today is not that day. In the mean time, you can subscribe! My first “real” post is coming soon.
I thought I came up with this name on my own, but it turns out it’s a relatively common joke. Oh well!
Needless to say, most people aren’t experts on all those things at once, and I am no exception.
What is it with bloggers with the last name Alexander?
